Flavourful and Delicious: The blend of soy sauce, dark soy sauce, honey, and rice vinegar creates a balanced marinade that is both sweet and savoury, making these wings absolutely irresistible.
Easy Preparation: With simple ingredients and straightforward steps, this recipe is perfect for both novice and experienced cooks. The marinade does most of the work, infusing the chicken with rich flavours.
Versatile Dish: These wings can be served as an appetiser, a main course, or a party snack. They pair well with a variety of side dishes, making them a versatile addition to your recipe collection.
Ingredients

- Chicken Wings: Versatile and flavourful, they become incredibly tender when marinated and baked.
- Soy Sauce & Dark Soy Sauce: These provide a deep umami flavour that forms the base of the marinade.
- Honey: Adds a natural sweetness that balances the saltiness of the soy sauces and helps caramelise the wings.
- Rice Vinegar: Adds a slight tanginess, enhancing the overall flavour profile.
- Sesame Oil: Adds a subtle, nutty flavour that complements the other ingredients.
- Sesame Seeds: Provide a crunchy texture and a nutty taste that enhances the wings.
- Chives: Add a fresh, mild onion flavour and a pop of colour for garnish.
See recipe card for quantities.
Hint: Ensure the chicken wings are evenly coated with the marinade by giving the container a good shake. This helps the flavours penetrate the meat better.
Substitutions
- Chicken Drumettes: Use these if you prefer more meat on your wings.
- Maple Syrup: A great alternative to honey if you want a slightly different sweet flavour.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: Can be used in place of rice vinegar for a different tangy twist.

Storage
Store any leftover chicken wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 180C for about 10 minutes, or until they are heated through and crispy.
Top tip
For extra crispy skin, broil the wings for the last 3-5 minutes of baking, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
FAQ
Can I use frozen chicken wings? Yes, but make sure to thaw them completely before marinating to ensure even absorption of flavours.
Can I grill these wings instead of baking them? Absolutely! Grilling adds a wonderful smoky flavour. Just make sure to watch them closely to prevent burning.
How long can I marinate the wings? While 30 minutes is sufficient, marinating them for a few hours or even overnight will enhance the flavours even more.
